A FEAST 2024

performance with Barbara Gryka

In this rendition, “A Feast”, the performers embody the same victorious knight and the Queen, now returning from their conquests not to reflect but to revel. They gather around a grand, decadent table piled with an overabundance of food and drink, symbolizing the spoils of their battles. The knight clads in their magnificent yet weathered armor, and the Queen, radiant yet imposing, begin to boast about their exploits, their voices overlapping in a cacophony of self-praise. Their movements grow exaggerated, almost gluttonous, as they partake in the feast, and the audience is invited to observe not only the celebration but also the unsettling undercurrent of greed, arrogance, and self-destruction. Their braggadocio becomes grotesque as they refuse to listen to one another, each more consumed with their own triumphs than with unity.

The armor, central to their identity and the source of their victory, becomes both their pride and their prison. As the performance progresses, hints of discomfort and unease seep through: movements slow, gestures turn rigid, and an almost suffocating heaviness overtakes the performers in the erotic torpor. The polished surface of the armor reflects the gluttony around them, implicating the audience in their reflection.
